Kombucha is a naturally fermented beverages which is made with tea, sugar and a live starter culture. The starter culture has been given the name ‘SCOBY’ which stands for ‘Symbiotic Culture of Bacteria and Yeast’. Without SCOBY, no kombucha. The starter culture contains the perfect composition of bacteria and yeast which convert the sweet tea into acids and aromas, leading to the unique pallet of kombucha. Kombucha is nothing new and has been consumed for centuries. The drinks was first documented in China, 221 BC during the Tsin Dynasty, where it was known as ‘immortality tea’. Years later, Genghis Khan and his followers brought Kombucha into the Western world and via trade routes, it became more popular in Europe and America.
YAYA Kombucha is brewed with organic and high-quality ingredients. We are SKAL certified under the number 106147. SKAL is the Dutch authority that keeps an eye on the reliability and approval of organic products. Recently, we developed YAYA Kombucha Hops. For this flavour, it was impossible to source organic hops because of drastic demand for IPA-style hops and their scarcity in the market. Therefore, our ‘Hops’ flavour contains <5% non-organic ingredients (hops) which is allowed and approved by SKAL.
The flavour of kombucha is often compared to apple cider as it has the same crispiness and sourness as cider. Generally, YAYA Kombucha can be described as refreshing, thirst-quenching, and clean with the perfect sweet and sour balance. Good to know; our kombucha contains one-third of the sugar compared to other soft drinks, making it less sweet.

YAYA Kombucha is a non-alcoholic beverage. However, due to the fermentation process, a natural formation of alcohol occurs, resulting in a small amount of alcohol in our kombucha. To make sure these levels are within the legal standards, we regularly analyse our kombucha in the lab. The percentage of alcohol in YAYA kombucha is less than <0,5%.
YAYA Kombucha is brewed in small batches under cooled conditions. This is important to guarantee shelf life and to offer you fresh kombucha. Because we don’t use pasteurization, the live culture is preserved in the bottle. For this reason, YAYA Kombucha needs to be stored refrigerated (2-7oC) to ensure a shelf life of 12 months. After opening, we recommend consuming the product within 3 days.
